The North Devon Branch of the Devon Association of Cricket Officials (DACO) provides an independent panel of umpires that officiate in all matches played in Division 1and 2 of the League.

In order to maintain a high standard, the League Management has introduced a marking scheme, each captain awards marks up to a maximum of 28 marks divided over seven sections with a maximum 4 marks each for Effective Relationship with Captain & Players, Projection of Confident Image, Appropriate level of intervention, Composure And Reaction To pressure, Level Of Teamwork, Application of Laws and Playing Conditions, Interpretation of Ground Weather And Light. This is confidential to the League Executive

Umpires are paid the sum of £30 for Division One and Division Two to defer their expenses. Each team shall pay one umpire this sum before play commences

In Matches where only One Umpire is appointed or present an additional increment of £10 will be payable to reflect additional 'both ends' responsibility.

This is to be divided equally, with both clubs paying £20

Umpires mark Clubs after each match. The Management Committee averages these marks and advises the Clubs at the end of the season. This system has been introduced to encourage the improvement, where necessary, in standards of groundsmanship and behaviour. The marks, up to a maximum of 30, include 10 for Pitch Marking and Boundaries, 10 for Sportsmanship and 10 for Captain’s Co-operation.

The branch and the League are always interested in encouraging those who may wish to qualify as an umpire or scorer. The Secretary will be pleased to discuss this with anyone who would like further details about training. The branch will also be pleased to assist any clubs who would like help to support their own members who umpire or score in Divisions 3,4 and 5.
